"ANJ's success in the first quarter of 2022 was driven by the increase in the average selling price of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and Palm Kernel (PK), by 53.7% and 79.4%, respectively. This success was due to the contribution of CPO and PK sales. 99% of the Company's total revenue, or US$ 74.8 million, compared to US$ 58.2 million or 99.2% of our total revenue in the first quarter of 2021," Lucas explained.
Lucas added that the increase in ANJ's revenue was also supported by sales of sago starch and edamame which increased by 78% and 175%, respectively. Sales of sago starch contributed US$ 378.8 thousand of total revenue in the first quarter of 2022. This figure increased from US$ 212.3 thousand in the same period in 2021 due to an increase in sales volume. Meanwhile, edamame sales revenue, amounting to US$ 203.2 thousand, increased by 175% from US$ 73.9 thousand in the same period in 2021. The increase was due to higher sales volume and price of fresh and frozen edamame.
ANJ Goals and Strategy for 2022
The company's targets and strategies, such as the implementation of sustainable strategies, innovation, and digital transformation that have a direct or indirect impact on ANJ's performance, are also briefly presented at the Public Expose.
ANJ targeted an average CPO production volume growth of 8% per year over the next five years. Palm oil production from nucleus estates is targeted to increase by around 10 to 13 percent this year. ANJ also sets Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets of which achievement strategies are integrated with business strategies. The application of organic fertilizer derived from compost, for example, is part of ANJ's strategy to achieve its ESG targets.
In addition, ANJ targets to achieve net zero emissions by 2030 by reducing the intensity of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 30% compared to 2015. ANJ also targets water use efficiency by reducing 5% per year to reach the use of one tonne of water for every tonne of FFB processed, traceability is up to 100%, helping to obtain sustainability certification for suppliers, as well as protection of forests and peat areas.
“This year, we will continue our ESG programs to support our future growth strategy. We also develop innovations to address the challenges of climate change which negatively impacts the productivity of the plantation and agriculture sectors. We believe that the strategies and innovations currently implemented can mitigate the impact of these risks,” said Lucas.
ANJ's efforts to integrate business strategy with ESG aspects have led ANJ to receive two awards at the “2022 Corporate Emissions Award” held by Investor Magazine and Bumi Global Karbon at the end of last April. In the group of non-banking issuers, ANJ received the Green Elite predicate for reducing corporate emissions and the Platinum Plus predicate for transparency in emission calculations.
In the first quarter of 2022, two of ANJ's subsidiaries handed over premium sales of sustainable palm oil to their fostered smallholders. PT Kayung Agro Lestari (KAL) has submitted a premium of Rp 480,336,648 to the Laman Mayang Sentosa Cooperative (LMS) which houses 624 plasma farmers in Ketapang, while PT Sahabat Mewah dan Makmur (SMM) distributed premiums from the sale of certified palm oil worth Rp 157,281,394 to five cooperatives in Belitung Island.
