ANJ RECORDS STRONG PERFORMANCE AND GROWTH IN Q1 2022

09 May 2022

Jakarta, 9 Mei 2022 – PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Tbk (ANJ) announced its operational and financial performance for the first quarter of 2022. ANJ recorded a net profit of US$11 million, up 261.9% compared to the same period in 2021.

The significant increase in net profit was driven by the increase in the average selling price of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and Palm Kernel (PK). This also contributed to the increase of EBITDA in the first quarter, from US$12.9 million to US$23.7 million in 2022 with an increase in EBITDA margin from 21.9% to 31.4%.

During the first quarter of 2022, ANJ produced 173,339 MT of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB). West Papua plantations which have just entered the commercial production stage in 2020 account for 15% of total production with a production increase of almost 40% compared to the same period in 2021.

"Based on a field survey of fruit potential, FFB production from North Sumatra II and West Kalimantan plantations is expected to increase in the following months in 2022. To achieve positive growth in the next few years, we will prioritize balancing the age profile of oil palm plantations while maintaining profitability and cash flow through a replanting strategy, especially in the Belitung Island and North Sumatra I plantations,” explained Lucas Kurniawan, President Director of ANJ.

ANJ's success in the first quarter of 2022 was also supported by an increase in revenue from the sales of sago starch and edamame which increased by 78% and 175%, respectively. The increase was due to an increase in sales volume compared to the same period last year.

Lucas explained that the positive performance in the first quarter of 2022 was supported by ANJ's efforts in building sustainability fundamentals and consistently implementing strong ESG practices. Since 2012 ANJ has implemented several climate change mitigation projects that integrate ESG initiatives with business strategies to reduce the impact of climate change risks. In addition, ANJ has just completed a road map of achieving net-zero carbon which is targeted to be achieved by 2030.

“We are trying to increase productivity through agronomic innovations that prioritize environmentally friendly elements such as the application of organic fertilizer (compost) on a larger scale, after successfully applying organic fertilizer to two plantations. We will also continue other innovations such as fertigation, pollination techniques with the help of the oil palm pollinating insect Elaeidobius kamerunicus, water management, and digital transformation," added Lucas.

ANJ has implemented breakthrough agronomic innovations in the management and use of organic fertilizers since 2015. This is a step towards achieving its ambitious GHG emission reduction target of achieving net-zero carbon by 2030. This initiative also helped reduce the impact of the rapidly rising prices for non-organic fertilizers due to the geopolitical crisis in Ukraine. With the use of organic fertilizers, it is estimated that ANJ saved over USD10 million in one year.

ANJ's efforts to integrate business strategy with ESG aspects have led ANJ to receive two awards at the 2021 “Corporate Emissions Award” held by Investor Magazine and Bumi Global Karbon at the end of last April. In the group of non-banking issuers, ANJ received the Green Elite predicate for reducing corporate emissions and the Platinum Plus predicate for transparency in emission calculations.
