ANJ RECEIVED AN AWARD FROM PMI FOR RESPONDING TO COVID-19 USING ECO-ENZYME

12 Apr 2022

Jakarta, 12 April 2022 – Recently, PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Tbk (ANJ) received an award from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) for the active efforts of ANJ and its subsidiaries in dealing with COVID-19. The award from PMI was handed over directly by Sumarsono, Head of Disaster Management Division of PMI Central Management to Yoomeidinar, Director of Human Resources and Change Management, ANJ Group for the donation of environmentally friendly disinfectant liquid "eco-enzyme" upon mitigating the risk of COVID-19 through the Indonesian Red Cross.

ANJ is fully committed to playing an active role in protecting the environment, one of which is by the production of eco-enzymes on a large scale. Employees at operating sites are encouraged to produce eco-enzymes to reduce organic waste in their kitchens.

Eco-enzyme is a multipurpose liquid produced from the fermentation of waste/peel of fruits and vegetables. It can reduce and replace the use of chemicals in households, which in turn also reduces the plastic packaging from widely used chemical products. During the COVID-19 pandemic, eco-enzyme is instrumental as a natural and environmentally friendly substitute for a chemical-based disinfectant liquid.

“In line with the company's vision to improve the quality of human life and the environment, we encourage the manufacture of eco-enzymes by teaching the employees and the surrounding community how to make eco-enzymes, as well as providing samples of eco-enzymes for them to use. It's easy to make, the ingredients are easy to get, and they also get a lot of benefits. We didn’t encounter too many obstacles in getting them to make eco-enzymes,” said Yoomeidinar, Director of Human Resources and Change Management, ANJ Group.

Eco-enzyme has many benefits for household applications as a disinfectant, bathroom and floor cleaner, detergent, natural fertilizer for plants, stove cleaner, cleaning pesticides and germs on fruits and vegetables, and is also helpful to remove smoke and unpleasant odors.

Through its four subsidiaries, ANJ has donated 2,675 liters of eco-enzyme to PMI with the following details:

  •  PT Sahabat Mewah dan Makmur (SMM) donated 1,000 liters to PMI in Belitung
  •  PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Agri (ANJA) donated 675 liters to PMI in South Tapanuli
  •  PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Agri Siais (ANJAS) donates 675 liters to PMI in South Tapanuli
  •  PT Kayung Agro Lestari (KAL) donated 1,000 liters to PMI in Ketapang

PMI finds that the assistance provided is very helpful to encourage the optimation of COVID-19 prevention. Eco-enzymes that have been received by PMI are used to disinfect public facilities and residential areas by request. PMI said that the eco-enzyme has been tested in the laboratory and has been proven to function effectively as a liquid disinfectant.  In addition, eco-enzymes can be used to support disaster management and other health activities.

PMI also said that eco-enzyme can also minimize the damage to equipment used in PMI’s disinfectant activities. Before using eco-enzyme, chemicals such as chlorine can damage the clothes of PMI officers and can cause corrosion on vehicles.

The use of eco-enzymes in the company's environment has been carried out throughout the ANJ Group, including as a COVID-19 disinfectant, organic fertilizer, and pest control pesticides for plants in employee housing and to purify sewage ponds. Eco-enzymes are also used in a farmer development project, namely the Program Tani Mandiri (Independent Farmer Program) in Tobing Jae Village, Huristak District, North Sumatra, where eco-enzymes are used as a booster for rice growth through the irrigation canals.

As of the end of March 2022, the ANJ Group has produced a total of 20,350 liters of eco-enzyme. In addition to donating eco-enzymes to PMI, the ANJ Group has also donated eco-enzyme to the community around the company, the Police, and also the local Community Health Center. The ANJ Group team also provided briefings to the community on how to make eco-enzymes to be used for daily household needs. The ANJ Group team also provides education to students at the Eka Pendawa Sakti school located in North Padang Lawas Regency, North Sumatra.
