ANJ WON BISRA GOLD CHAMPION AWARD 2022

29 Jun 2022

Jakarta, 29 Juni 2022 – ANJ won the "Golden Champion in Corporate Social Responsibility Program" award for the National Private Company category at the Bisnis Indonesia Corporate Social Responsibility Award (BISRA). The award was given to several companies that are considered exceptional in carrying out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs based on a comprehensive assessment of the principles of CSR programs implementations, as well as companies that direct their performance and operations on principles that prioritize Environmental, Social, and Government (ESG).

Initiated by Bisnis Indonesia together with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, BISRA 2022 was held on June 29, 2022, with the theme 'Social Responsibility to Accelerate Stronger Recover'. The award gives appreciation and motivation to companies that contribute to vulnerable and low-income communities (MBR),  especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Furthermore, this award can be a learning space for companies in managing effective, impactful and sustainable CSR, as well as supporting the acceleration of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This is ANJ's second "Golden Champion in Corporate Social Responsibility Program", last year ANJ also won "The Best Award for Volunteering Program."

“This award is a form of appreciation for ANJ's commitment to a consistent and sustainable CSR program. We believe that companies that sustainably run their business must have a positive impact not only on those directly involved in the business, but also on society and the environment,” explained Nunik Maharani, Director of Sustainability and Corporate Communications of ANJ Group.

The socio-economic empowerment programs at ANJ have clear social benefits, both for employees and for the villagers around the operation sites. ANJ is dedicated to making lasting changes to ensure that the benefits of its programs are also shared by future generations. At ANJ, Responsible Development is built on three pillars namely Human (Human Welfare), Planet (Natural Resource Stewardship) and Business Prosperity (Long-term Economic Sustainability).

“Together, these three pillars form our triple bottom line to deliver sustainable results for people, the environment and the economy. Our recent performance amid challenging times is strong evidence that a sustainable business model built on the triple bottom line creates a more successful business,” added Nunik.

ANJ's socioeconomic empowerment programs that are included in the assessment of the 2022 BISRA award are the Floating Paddy program, the Mandiri Tani program, and the Savings Cooperative program which aim to have a positive impact on stakeholders.

Arianto Wibowo, ANJ Head of CID & Cooperatives, said “In all of our locations, ANJ strives to contribute to the community through the provision of employment and livelihood programs as well as access to education and health. We seek to empower communities by developing the potential around them and teaching skills to improve their lives while ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.”

In addition, Arianto also added that ANJ's subsidiary in Belitung, Sahabat Luxurious and Makmur (SMM), pioneered the implementation of floating paddy cultivation using the jajar legowo planting system, a cultivation system in which each row of rice planted is separated by a blank row to increase yields.  Meanwhile, ANJ's subsidiary in North Sumatra, Austindo Nusantara Jaya Agri (ANJA) collaborates with the community through the Tani Mandiri program to overcome the problem of rat attacks in the community's rice fields.  Then, ANJ's West Papua subsidiary, Permata Putera (PPM) Mandiri & Putera Manunggal Perkasa (PMP), initiated the Savings Cooperative program as the easiest and safest way for employees and communities around the company to save and transfer money.

“The social empowerment program that has been carried out has succeeded in helping the community around the company's environment from an economic perspective where several programs have provided additional income and or reduced community expenditure. In addition, several programs have also succeeded in helping the community in protecting the environment by implementing agronomic innovations which are our expertise,” concluded Arianto.
