KAL SUPPORTS KETAPANG REGIONAL GOVERNMENT TO REALIZE INDEPENDENT VILLAGE

Ketapang, 10 Juni 2022 – On October 10, 2022, the Ketapang Regency Government together with PT Kayung Agro Lestari (KAL), Perkumpulan Mitra Pembangunan (PMP), and the Tropenbos Indonesia Foundation signed a Cooperation Agreement at the Ketapang Regent's Office, West Kalimantan. The Cooperation Agreement, initiated at the end of 2019, is a formal manifestation of the Desa Fokus program launched by the Ketapang Regency Government to realize community development and empowerment in Kuala Tolak Village, Kuala Satong Village, and Laman Satong Village to become independent towards a stable and leading village (MAPAN).

The signing of the cooperation program was carried out by the Deputy Regent of Ketapang, H. Farhan, S.E., who represented the Regent of Ketapang, Martin Rantan, along with the Director of Sustainability and Corporate Communication of the ANJ Group, Nunik Maharani Maulana, Head of the Department of Community Empowerment and Village Government of Ketapang Regency, Mansen, SH., MH, Director of the Development Partners Association, Donatus Rantan, and Director of Tropenbos, Edi Purwanto.

In his speech, the Head of the Department of Community Empowerment and Village Administration of Ketapang Regency, Mansen, SH., MH, explained that the purpose of this collaboration is to effectively improve understanding and development of integrated village role models that are carried out collaboratively between the government, private parties, and independent institutions. As well as to increase the capacity of community empowerment based on the Building Village Index (IDM), especially in Kuala Tolak Village, Kuala Satong Village, and Laman Satong Village to become independent towards a steady and leading village (MAPAN).

"Based on the updated status of IDM development in 2021 in Ketapang Regency, there were additional 21 independent villages and 23 developed villages, as well as a reduction in 29 developing villages and 15 underdeveloped villages. Currently, Ketapang Regency is ranked third in West Kalimantan Province with the most independent villages," said Mansen, SH., MH.

Nunik Maharani Maulana explained that Desa Fokus is an IDM improvement program launched by the Ketapang Regency government. ANJ's support for the program is carried out through the Responsible Development (RD) Program to achieve the mission of realizing an independent village.

“Our presence is expected to have a positive impact on improving the quality of life of the surrounding community. Our commitment to sustainability is also guided by sustainable development goals to achieve better access to create economic opportunities and protect the environment, through partnership programs with oil palm farmers, environmental education programs, farmer firefighting groups, and other programs. Where KAL operates in North Matan Hilir District, there are three villages, namely Kuala Tolak Village, Kuala Satong Village, and Laman Satong Village.  Laman Satong Village is targeted to become a steady and leading village (MAPAN)," added Nunik.

On the same occasion, H. Farhan, as the Deputy Regent of Ketapang, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders involved, especially the KAL management. He also hoped that this development cooperation can help realize our mutual aspiration.

"The presence of KAL in Ketapang Regency is expected to help move the regional economy both macro and micro so that the surrounding villages can grow and develop along with the company's success. The collaboration between the government, KAL, and other independent institutions can effectively increase community capacity and empowerment to advance Kuala Tolak Village, Kuala Satong Village, and Laman Satong Village to become independent villages towards MAPAN villages," explained H. Farhan.

Donatus Rantan from Perkumpulan Mitra Pembangunan and Edi Purwanto the Director of Tropenbos welcomed this initiative. "We will provide full support together with the Ketapang Regency Government and KAL in its implementation," explained the two.

Previously, KAL provided coaching assistance to the people of Kuala Tolak Village so that they could produce kelulut honey as a local product that could help improve the economy.  Kelulut honey management is one of KAL's initiatives in creating economic opportunities through community development programs. To reduce poverty levels, the ANJ Group seeks to increase productivity and promote economic growth in all areas where it operates as one of its business missions.
