IN CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL WASTE CARE DAY: ANJ GROUP TAKES ACTION FOR A WASTE-FREE FUTURE

Jakarta, February 23, 2023 - In commemorating National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN), celebrated every February 21, PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Tbk. (ANJ), through its two subsidiaries, PT Sahabat Mewah and Makmur (SMM), located in East Belitung Regency, and PT Gading Mas Indonesia Teguh (GMIT), located in Jember, East Java, organized several activities involving local communities to foster a clean and healthy environment together. 

On February 17, SMM, in collaboration with Liring Hamlet residents and Renggiang Village Officials, held a Giat Jumat Sehat (Healthy Friday) event to raise community awareness about the importance of proper waste disposal and creating a beautiful environment for collective health. The activity occurred in Liring Hamlet, Renggiang Village, Simpang Renggiang District, East Belitung. Participants engaged in healthy walks, while picking up litter along the roads they passed.  

Additionally, they conducted tree planting activities, jointly planting decorative trees and forest tree near the Liring Hamlet community. The event also included a collective cleaning action to tidy up the surrounding area. 

“A collaborative program like this is a positive step for the common good. As village officials and community members who are directly connected with the company, we welcome the Giat Jumat Sehat program. Besides contributing to environmental preservation, it also allows us to get to know and interact more closely with the entire team from SMM, and vice versa," said Siskori, Head of Renggiang Village. 

Juli Wankara Purba, Resident Director of SMM, highlighted ANJ's commitment to responsible development, focusing on reducing environmental impact and benefiting the community through collaborative efforts that lead to long-term change. He stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between the company, society, and the environment, expressing hope for the continuity and sustainability of such collaborative programs to bring positive impacts to all parties. 

Meanwhile, in Jember, East Java, the GMIT team conducted education and campaigns on the dangers of plastic waste, promoting the use of environmentally friendly shopping bags. On February 20, the GMIT team distributed reusable shopping bags to the local community and farmers in the GMIT edamame planting area of Wonojati Village, Ajung District. The activity aimed to reduce single-use plastic bag usage and promote better plastic waste management practices in the community and among farmers. 

Joko Ramadhoni, GMIT Estate Manager, stated that in alignment with ANJ's Sustainability Policy, which emphasizes a commitment to efficient waste management through the implementation of 3R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle). The distribution of reusable bags aimed to promote their multiple uses and contribute to reducing plastic waste in edamame farm areas. The activity also sought to raise awareness about proper plastic management to mitigate plastic waste's environmental and health impacts.
