Belitung, 31 Agustus 2022 - PT Sahabat Mewah dan Makmur (SMM) recently (23/8) collaborated with the Dendang District Government to conduct socialization on the prevention of forest fires, as well as monitoring hotspots and fire-prone locations in the vicinity of the Dendang District area.
The activity was attended by government officials of the Dendang sub-district, the Dendang police, the Village Chiefs of the Dendang sub-district, smallholder fire-fighting groups called Kelompok Tani Peduli Api (KTPA) and Taruna Siaga Bencana (Tagana) in the Dendang sub-district.
The socialization activity was carried out as an effort to raise awareness and encourage residents to protect their environments, especially those in high-fire-risk areas.
In his speech, the General Manager of SMM, Ridwan Damanik, said that the socialization activity was carried out to strengthen the synergy among stakeholders in the early prevention of forest fires. One way to build synergies is to provide understanding and encourage all stakeholders to take an active role in protecting and managing agricultural areas and surrounding land from the threat of forest fires together. "Prevention of forest fires is a shared responsibility and must be carried out together," added Ridwan.
To prevent forest fires, SMM has put up warning signs in public places and other strategic locations. The company also improves coordination with government agencies in anticipating forest fires. In addition, early detection and intensive hotspot monitoring in concession areas are also carried out by field patrols and other monitoring systems such as lookout towers, drones and others.
Shoufian, Chief of Dendang Sub-district, also said that Dendang District has committed to preventing forest fires, by educating the public on the prevention of forest fires and prohibiting land opening by fire. Dendang District will continue to coordinate with the local communities and all stakeholders in raising awareness of the dangers of forest fires.
Coordinated measures to prevent forest fires are required to anticipate potential forest fires in Dendang District so that the environmental impact caused by forest fires can be controlled and the environment can be maintained properly.
