ANJ West Kalimantan Palm Oil Unit Obtains RSPO Certification

18 Nov 2019

Jakarta, 18 November 2019 – PT Kayung Agro Lestari (KAL), an oil palm plantation operating in the province of West Kalimantan under PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Tbk (ANJ) Group, has obtained a certification from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) after having met all requirements for sustainable and responsible palm oil, set by the multi-stakeholder organization overseeing the industry.

The certificate for compliance with RSPO Principles and Criteria, issued on November 11, 2019 and is valid for five years, was issued after a series of assessments by PT MUTU Certification International, an RSPO-accredited institution.

Located in Ketapang Regency, PT KAL is a business unit of the ANJ Group which is under the management of PT ANJ Agri (ANJA) and received RSPO membership number 1-0032-07-000-00.

The certification was given to one palm oil mill unit of Kayung Agro Lestari and all of its supplier plantations, including a unit of the plasma scheme plantation, the Mitra Laman Mayang Sentosa, managed by the company in Matan Hilir Utara sub-district in the Ketapang district of West Kalimantan.

The certification was based on the RSPO 2013 Principles and Criteria (RSPO Generic P&C 2013), the 2016 National Interpretation of the Republic of Indonesia, and the RSPO supply chain compliance document for CPO Mill issued in November 2014 (revised June 14, 2017).

PT KAL is the 4th palm oil business unit under ANJ that has received RSPO certification, demonstrating ANJ’s commitment to good palm oil governance that prioritizes the development of a responsible environment and supports sustainable government programs, said Geetha Govindan, CEO of ANJ’s Palm Oil.

“This certification shows that the Company has fulfilled a set of principles and criteria for best environmental, social and operational management practices in the production of its palm oil and palm kernel products,” Geetha said.

PT KAL’s General Manager, Jerileva Purba, appreciated the team’s hard work in meeting all the requirements to get this RSPO certification.

“This is a proud achievement for all personnel at PT KAL and we will continue to work towards maintaining this certification going forward,” he added.

One of the commitments for sustainable plantation management at PT KAL was manifested in the form of the management of high conservation value areas (HCVs) in the location permit area, namely HCV 657 hectares and HCV 2,330 hectares, known as Bukit Kiras HCV area. PT KAL manages a conservation area of 3,844 hectares or 28 percent of the company’s total land use rights (HGU) area.
