Considering local water stress levels, we use a detailed water management tool to monitor and map our plant’s water usage. On 2023, we have used WRI Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas of the World Resource Institute as our reference whether our palm oil originate from areas with water stress. According to the WRI Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas of the World Resource Institute, all of our locations (North Sumatra province, Bangka Belitung province, West Kalimantan province and Southwest Papua province, all in Indonesia), are in areas with a low risk of water stress. Based on this evaluation, we have determined that none of our FFB produced are from regions with water-stressed or face a high to extremely high risk of water stress.
We also map our suppliers with a comprehensive water tool taking into account local water stress. In the upstream of our value chain, our primary and the most significant suppliers are smallholder farmers. They use rain water in their plantations, and currently there is no technology to monitor and measure rain water use. We plan to monitor and assess our suppliers' impact on water pollutants within the next two years, which includes managing the use of fertilizers and preventing runoff into water bodies. In the meantime, we do engage with our smallholders to apply best agronomic practices to minimize environmental impact. We have conducted an assessment and the results show that none of our suppliers are located in water stressed areas.
