Jakarta, June 16, 2023 - PT Permata Putera Mandiri (PPM), a subsidiary of PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Tbk. (ANJ), completed the rehabilitation of the Watershed Area (DAS) on February 13, 2023. The rehabilitation activities covered an area of approximately 13 hectares located within the Malanu Watershed protected forest in North Sorong District, Sorong City, based on the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry SK.4704/Menlhk-PDASHL/KTA/DAS.1/8/2020 dated 7 August 2020. This watershed rehabilitation activity is part of the company's obligation and commitment to the environment as the holder of a Borrow-to-Use Forest Area Permit (IPPKH).
Represented by Mohammad Fitriyansyah as the President Director, PPM handed over the rehabilitation of the DAS to Ir. Dyah Murtiningsih, M.Hum, Director General of Watershed Management and Forest Rehabilitation (PDASRH) KLHK, on 15 June 2023 in Jakarta.
Mohammad Fitriyansyah emphasized the company's priority and commitment to forest protection, demonstrated through rehabilitation activities, planting in HCS areas, replanting riparian areas, and caring for forest trees in the company's operational area.
He stated, “Sustainable forest management and resource utilization are key to combating climate change and contributing to the prosperity and well-being of present and future generations.”
The approximately 13-hectare rehabilitation area was planted with 19,380 species of Mahogany, Merbau, Linggua, Cempedak, Pinang, Rambutan, Durian, and Cashew trees, with an average live plant growth rate of 94.76%. These selected plants are expected to provide added value to the surrounding community, ensuring the area's sustainability. Additionally, planting special plant seeds is intended to reduce the risk of landslides and maintain biodiversity in the surrounding environment.
During the second year of maintenance activities in 2022, the Remu Ransiki Watershed and Protected Forest Management Office (BPDASHL), the West Papua Provincial Forestry Service, and the Sorong City Protected Forest Management Unit (KPHL) conducted ground checks, monitoring, evaluation, and provided technical guidance to the area maintenance workers.
This activity was carried out under regulations from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, following the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry dated January 31, 2019, which granted IPPKH for oil palm plantation transportation roads covering an area of ± 11.48 Ha in South Sorong District. According to these regulations, companies holding IPPKH must carry out watershed rehabilitation. The location for the watershed area restoration was selected based on the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number SK.10612/Menlhk-PDASHL/KTA/DAS.1/12/2019, which pertains to the Determination of Planting Locations in the Context of Watershed Rehabilitation on behalf of PT Permata Putera Mandiri.
Additionally, another ANJ Group company in South Sorong, PT Putera Manunggal Perkasa (PMP), routinely conducts an annual forest enrichment program. They plant various types of trees, such as Guava (Syzygium sp), Merbau (Intsia bijuga), Mahang (Maccaranga sp), Nageia Wallichiana, Cempedak (Artocarpus integer), Resak (Vatica rassak), and several other tree species in the High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) areas.
